Nicholas Dean Outdoors at Pioneer Lodge

Lower Skeena Valley | Spring Steelhead

with host Jeff Bright

For steelhead flyfishing, early spring is the most dependable season in Skeena Country. Air and water temperatures are warming from winter but precipitation falls as snow on the ridges, keeping the rivers low and green — perfect for swinging big flies on sinktips for big steelhead. • • • Beginning in summer and continuing through fall, winter and spring — right up to the May spawn — steelhead enter the Skeena system. In spring, the tributaries are stacked with the bounty of this nearly year-long run. We’ll find fish with prominent red stripes as well as fish chrome-bright and fresh from the salt. • • • A great trip for spey rodders, this week will boost your winter steelheading know-how exponentially.
